Content marketing stalled by writer’s block? Here’s what I did.
May 16th, 2017
For the past five years, I have posted a blog once a week, virtually without fail. As a provider of content marketing services, we not only have to talk the talk… we also have to walk the walk. But after nearly 250 posts… I hit a wall. For the first time since we started Harpeth Marketing, I had writers’ block.
It’s not that I couldn’t come up with any good ideas for posts, I couldn’t come up with any ideas… period! It was truly frustrating.
So, unable to come up with any ideas on my own… I decided to do what I tell our clients to do when helping them start a content marketing program – I asked the marketplace what they would be interested in reading about and learning.
To make that happen, in our most recent monthly e-newsletter, I asked our readers to participate in a 1-question survey. In it, I listed approximately two dozen different marketing and sales topics… and asked which ones they were most interested in learning about.
The top topics selected by our readers were…
#1 Differentiating your firm (#1 by a wide margin)
#2 Lead generation (no real surprise)
#3 Building awareness
#3 Creating a sales plan (didn’t expect this one)
#3 Positioning your firm
Thank you to those who took the time to complete this survey. Because of your help, be on the lookout in the coming weeks for blog posts focused on these topics.
Conversely, the two least requested topics are both a little old-school (also, not a surprise)…
#1 Print advertising
By the way, I’m keeping the survey open and would love to add to the responses. If you’re willing to take a 1-minute, 1-question survey to help us out, CLICK HERE.
